Welcome
to Chinua Norwegian Forest Cats!
We chose the name for our cattery very deliberately. Chinua means
‘God’s blessings’. Animals and nature are blessings to me. One of
my sisters calls me a female James Herriot, a true compliment from her.
Chinua is a dream come true for me, as I have loved Norwegian Forest
Cats for over 25 years.
Let me introduce you to the ‘cast of characters’ that makes up our
family! Ann and Richard
Warren -- the devoted slaves to our fur clan. Barkley is a Golden
Retriever who is guardian of all felines.
The Wegies in our family are Mietta, Purry, Vincent Maureen, Lucy
and Zander. Maelstrom Radagast of Chinua is a welcome visitor and he is
here to stay as he is the Dad of the kittens. We are a small cattery in
Moberly, Missouri, a half-hour from Columbia where the University of
Missouri is located.
Our love of Norwegian Forest Cats began in the early 80’s when we
rescued a Wegie from being put to sleep because the family had a new
baby and they were afraid Squiggy would smother the baby with his big
body. A myth yes, but a bonus of a lifetime to us since that is what
brought this wonderful cat into our lives!
Squiggy quickly became a member of our family with his outgoing and very
loving purrsonality. We
were farming at the time he came to live with us and many a night he sat
up with us while we tried to save near frozen lambs, piglets and calves
on cold winter nights. We believe that many times it was his presence (often his
assistance) that gave that frozen little animal the will to live.
He was an amazing cat.
He also was known to lie on your chest and put a paw on the side of your
face to give you a Wegie kiss and comfort you after a bad day and we had
many of them farming in the 80’s.
He also helped me raise
a 4-week-old kitten named Buzz.
When I first brought her home the unthinkable happened and I lost her! I
looked everywhere! She
didn’t have a name yet, so I could only frantically call, kitty, kitty,
kitty!
Finally I went to Squiggy and asked for his help!
And guess what I found?
That very tiny bundle of fur was carefully nestled in Squiggy’s tummy
fur! He couldn’t supply her with the milk she needed, but he could
supply her with lots of TLC. She flourished under his gentle care and
they were inseparable until Squiggy’s death.
My dream was to one day be owned heart and soul by another Wegie since
Squiggy’s death left such a hole in our hearts and lives. Richard said
that after Buzz died that he only wanted a Norwegian Forest Cat, no
other cat would do!
After 2 long years of NO cats in the house my family stepped in
and brought Mietta into our lives. Thanks to Lara & Pieter Redelinghuys
of Ratatosk Norwegian Forest Cats for allowing Mietta to be shipped a
half a world away to us! See Mietta story to learn how she came to live
with us!
She is a blessing in our lives and has brought hours of joy with
her precious kittens to us and all our kitten owners.
Our aim in breeding is to raise
healthy, strongly built Wegies with adorable, cuddly temperaments while
preserving the beauty and standard of the breed.
Our kittens are raised underfoot and have the run of the house, like our
other cats, once they have navigated climbing the baby gate. Because we
believe that a well-socialized kitten will be a happier cat, we cuddle
our kittens from birth on.
We also have family and friends who visit us often to play with the
kittens.
We will be very selective in the homes our kittens go to because they
are a part of our family and we want them to have a long and happy life
with their new family. If you are interested in a Chinua kitten please
go to our Kitten page and fill out the inquiry
form.
Thanks for your interest in this wonderful breed and have a blessed day!
