KATPENN CAP'N ZANDER OF CHINUA

D.O.B.  19 September, 2006

Zander at 5 months old.  What promise!

Searching for the right kitten to fit into a breeder’s plan is never an easy task nor one to be taken lightly.  With us this decision was made even harder with the loss of sweet Nori in March of 2006.  He could never be replaced, but if we were going to continue to breed Norwegian Forest Cats we needed a boy of our own.  I searched for months, looked at all the cute baby Wegie kittens and even though each one was precious in it’s own right, none of them touched my heart.  I needed this kitten to take my breath away like Nori did…heart and soul.  I knew Nori was watching over us still and knew that he would direct me to the next Chinua sire, I just had to be patient.  The next-to-be Chinua sire just hadn’t been born yet.  That’s what I had to believe.  As the months went by I began to question myself.  Maybe I just wasn’t ready and the boy had already been shown to me and I had missed my chance.  Maybe I just couldn’t let go of Nori or the thought of another boy capturing my heart was too hard to contemplate.  After tormenting myself for months I had to tell myself to STOP!  I would know when the new boy, who was to capture my heart, was born.

A dear friend told me she had seen where Kat Pennington had a litter of 4 boys and suggested I take a look.  Kat has a wonderful live feed kitten cam that allows you to watch the mom and babies.  The babies were about 3 weeks old so they would just be wobbling about and at a very cute stage.  I looked at the still pictures and liked all four of them…of course!  What’s not to like about a sweet fluffy kitten with big blue eyes?  I went to the kitten cam and watched for a while…the babies had just finished nursing and were settling in for a good nap snuggled up with their Ali-mom.  So, just for the heck of it I asked, ‘Which one of you boys would like to come to Missouri and be loved by us?’  Oh my gosh I couldn’t believe my eyes, one of the babies got up and wobbled over to look straight in the camera as if to say me, me, me!  Take me!  When the then named Lil Sirius peered up into the camera it was as if his sweet white face and ruff formed a heart and mine was lost yet again.  This is the boy that Nori wanted here with us.  I couldn’t have been happier with his choice!

I emailed and called Kat to see if Lil Sirius was available, holding my breathe in anticipation until she put me out of my misery.  She said that he was indeed available and could come live with us and be loved by us.  I asked her if we could name him Zander after my favorite cousin and she thought that was a great name for him.  We would be welcoming Katpenn Cap’n Zander of Chinua into our family the first part of January 2007.  Right around cousin Zander’s birthday. What a way to start the New Year! We will have a boy in the house again!

Kat sent me this photo the night before we were to get Zander...to make sure we still wanted him...

Who wouldn't want this sweet baby?  I certainly couldn't turn him down!  He loves to be held like a baby and look at those sweet pink feet pads!  I was counting the minutes until I could hold him like that too!

Zander at 4 months old settling into our home...what a sweet boy!

Zander has very quickly become part of the family.  His easygoing, loving personality helped him fit in with the other cats seamlessly.  He loves to be held and cuddled which I love.  He purrs nonstop and has a wonderful chortle to carry on a conversation.  He joins us and the other kitties on the deck when it's cool enough and loves bird watching and playing tag with the other kitties.

We look forward to many wonderful kittens from Zander and our girls.  The kittens will inherit his wonderful personality and very handsome looks!  Check back in and ‘sit a spell’ to see what kittens have been born from this stunning boy!

The ripple effect continues...
