Sweet Saint Vincent

D.O.B. 25 September, 2002

Sweet Saint Vincent, a story of love at first sight…

Have you ever had a kitten tug on your heartstrings so much that you’d do just about anything to have him or her?  Vincent was that kitten for me and that is saying a lot since I love all kittens!  The moment I saw him at 8 weeks old I knew we were meant to be together.  One look at his sweet face and all was lost!  My heart was engaged for life.  He was a little shy at that age but the very same afternoon we met he curled up and we took a nap together.  That night when we watched a movie he lay sprawled across me for hours!  It was as if he had ‘chosen’ me too!  From that moment I was relentless in my quest to have him in our lives and our home!

I have to share a secret that I’ll never tell my sweet red boy because I would never do anything to hurt his feelings…Reds and creams are (or had been) my least favorite colors of cats.  Vincent has since changed my mind about that silly thought!  This was one of those important life lessons God teaches us when we are open to learning. One I actually thought I had already learned, but evidently not well enough!  I know you are scratching your head, saying what kind of important lesson could I learn from a cat’s color???  Very simply that color doesn’t matter.  I needed to look past his color and see his heart.  Vincent’s sweet and loving heart is what I needed right then and I needed to learn to look past insignificant things like color or looks.  God made Vincent red because he doesn’t just wear his heart on his sleeve but all over his furry body!  Vincent and I share a connection that I would have missed out on if I had been put off by his being red.  I feel blessed that I benefited so greatly from this very valuable lesson. Vincent continues to teach us each day he is with us.

Vincent came to us when I was despairing that Mietta would NEVER have kittens.  He filled a void in our lives and brought Mietta out of her most independent state. That tiny boy melted Mietta’s heart and showed her she could be a good cat-mom.  Three months after Vincent came to live with us Mietta had her 1st litter with Rad!  Purry Catsanova was born and became Vincent’s lifelong buddy.  Vincent was ever vigilant when little Purry started to explore his home.  Purry and Vincent have their own ‘language’ that they only speak to each other.  We could always tell when Purry was getting in trouble because Vincent could be stern in his training!  Purry has grown up to be a fine young man and he and Vincent spend many hours curled up together…all red, white and blue.

From Vincent I have learned to always see with my heart and not with my eyes…I see so much more beauty around me each and every day thanks to this simple lesson.  Thank you my sweetest red boy!  You are a blessing to everyone who meets you!

Typical guy!
