CHINUA
LUCILLE BALL

Sweet Sunny Lucy in her favorite
sunbeam on the deck...bird watching!
August 2007
My dearest sweet Lucybelle…
Your story has been long overdue to be written.
You’ve turned 3 now and are a glorious tribute to your breed. You
are everything and more that I could have ever hoped for in a kitten I
helped raise. Mietta and Rad should be very proud of their
beautiful, sweet Lucy girl.
As you know you got your name because there were 3
of you ‘redheaded’ girls in your litter. I decided to name you 3
beauties after 3 of my favorite redheads. Maureen O’Hara fit
Maurie perfectly with her funny raspy, sexy meow talk and her sultry
eyes. Audrey just had to be Audrey Hepburn since she is delicately
built, statuesque and very dainty in her actions…not to mention that she
looked like the human Audrey when she was in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Then came the baby of the litter. When I
helped Mietta clean off your bright, pretty face you looked like you had
been kissed by a ray of sunshine. As you opened your eyes to the big
wide world you decided to be the first to do everything. The first
to drink goats milk and eat baby food. The first to climb out of
the kitten basket to play with the toys. The first to climb the
baby gate at 3 weeks old!!! You may have been born the baby but
you made up for it quickly once you found your feet! And what a
goofball you could be! Lucille Ball has been reincarnated and she
is living in our house!

Even at only hours old Lucy was
talking her heart out and making us laugh!
Since we wanted to keep Mietta’s lines I had
decided to keep 2 of you to see how you developed to decide which one
would be the next ‘Mom’. Sometimes a breeder’s hindsight is better
but we make the best decisions we can make and go from there. I
wish I had kept you whole also so you could be raising kittens about
now. You would have been a wonderful Mom. But we decided
that Maureen would carry on the lines (see Maureen’s story) and you were
spayed so you could live with another family and enchant them with your
funny antics and heartwarming love. Little did I know what God
really had planned for you sweet one!

Sweet Bella Luce welcoming a new day
with a quick kitten nap!
You quickly found a way to the highest places in
our home…first by you and Maurie helping Dad fix the cable wiring in the
basement way atop the entertainment center. Then the fridge was
your next trick, only to find you even higher on the cabinet above the
fridge! No silly cat trees for you! I bet if I’d ever let
you climb a tree you would have been the one to go clear to the top!
Coming down would have been the least of your worries at the time! The
fun is in being WAY up high!

Lucy is sure she can thread that cable
faster...or would that be take it down faster!
Maureen is finding that 'black hole'
just too intriguing!

Oh Mom...just let us take our beauty
nap!!! Not that we need help in the beauty dept!
You would chirrup and chortle at me from high
above…never one to be held but would allow and love petting when it was
your idea. What a deep rumbly purr you inherited from your
parents too! Those purrs are always music to my ears when you wake
me from a bad dream with frantic licks to my face and extra loud purrs.
Then you settle in purring away to help put me back to sleep. You
know exactly how to chase those bad dreams away.

Our gorgeous Nori had joined our family by then
all the way from England. He, Maureen and Mietta would have wonderful
babies together. Lucy would be a wonderful Auntie until we found
her the perfect home. In the meantime you continued to enchant us
and everyone who met you Lucy. You are a ray of sunshine walking.
I would need that and your unconditional love very soon.

For the reader’s of your story Lucy…
If you’ve read Nori’s story on our Guardian
Angel’s page then you will know that he was only with us for 5 short
months before he became ill. When I first saw Nori on Kate
Campbell’s website I fell in love with him immediately and irreversibly.
His death left such a huge hole in my heart and being. Norwegian
Forest Cats are known for their unconditional love and their empathy.
I can testify to that on many occasions but none so clearly as with
Nori’s death. I believe that Nori asked Lucy to stand in for him
since he wouldn’t be on earth to care for us.
When we got home from having to put Nori to sleep,
Lucy climbed up into my lap as I cried my heart out at the unfairness of
it all. She purred and snuggled until I had settled down.
Then she licked my face and hopped down to do some of her funny Lucy
antics to make me laugh. When emailing family and friends what had
happened with Nori, Lucy was in my lap, a place Nori loved but she never
cared for. She would follow me around like a puppy, plop at my
feet when I stopped and look up at me with an almost glowing face.
She would send me love blinks while she chirped and talked to me about
anything that was on her mind.

NO Mom...I didn't touch Santa Claus!
It wasn't me, really it wasn't!!!
To this day Lucy really doesn’t like to be held,
but she’ll tolerate it especially if I’m tired or stressed out so that
she can comfort me. She still plops at my feet and tells me all
about her day and begs for cheek rubs and loves. She wakes me from
nightmares then puts me back to sleep and is our nurse cat when either
of us is sick or hurting. She loves spending time with us on the deck
with the other kitties when it’s cool. She’s never met a stranger
and loves to make us laugh. That is her mission in life!

Lucy helping Mom put Christmas decorations out...
Mom may have forgotten something in the box!!!
She is
one of those very special animals who can heal
with a look and a purr. She is pure love walking.

playtime!
And to our sweet Lucy, our heartfelt thanks for loving us as you do.
You'll tell us if you want a home elsewhere.
In the meantime we're so very glad you stayed.
The ripple effect continues...
